Sean Connery to give up acting shock
To quote the BBC Site: "Sir Sean Connery has said he does not want to act in any more movies because he was "fed up with the idiots" now working in Hollywood."
Now this may be a cheap shot, but given recent stuff like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, I was under the impression that he had given up acting a long time ago... ( I soo wanted to love that film, it had a great trailer but at the end of the day it was, for want of a better phrase, Bollocks.)
I love Sean Connery. His ability to play characters with a gruff scottish accent is second to none. Who can forget his scottish/russian submarine captain in Hunt for Red October. The irish cop in The Untouchables with a Scottish accent. Or his role in Highlander where he played an Egyptian who had lived in Spain for 2000 years, via Edinburgh (ironically sounding 100 times more Scottish than the Frenchman who played the bloody Highlander!!!)
Apparently according to the article he turned down the role of Gandalf. Maybe its cos I am so used to the wonderful Sir Ian McKellan in the role, but I am not sure I can see Sean Connery as the gruff, Scottish Gandalf...
"Now Lishen here Mr Frodo..
He shends the Nazgul, you shends the Entsh.
He shends one of yours to the hoshpital, you shend one of his to the Firesh of Doom.
That'sh the Mordor way.
And that'sh how you get Sauron."
Hmm... just can't see that myself.

Definitely Ian McKellan for Gandalf.
And who can forget his stint as the (then) slightly Scottish Mr. Bond?

Joanna, read the comi - hrem, graphic novel - of League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, it's ace and about three trillion times better than the travesty of a movie. Mr Connery is a bit of an idiot and has a long track record of turning down roles which nmay have actually have given him some credibilty, I think. At least his companion in The Man Who Would Be King, Mr Caine, is now back on track big time.
Excuse the irritable post, I've got quite the most hideous hangover.
"The name's Gandalf. Er, Gandalf Gandalf."

He was always the best bond (although I am a huge fan of Brosnan)
And Wyndham, yeah I really should check out the graphic novels. As always comic book movies are very patchy.. For every Batman Begins there is a Judge Dredd :(
Michael Caine is another one to never bother with accents. If in doubt, play the loud cockney and use the word "Bloody" a lot. Works every time ;-)

I too am a fan of Brosnan, but unfortunately it was all downhill after Goldeneye, poor man.
For every Spiderman 2 there is a, um, Hulk. Actually I quite liked the Hulk, what am I saying?
Ah, Mr Caine. One accent. But he does it so very well.

My favourite place to see Sean perform is in "Darby o'Gill and the Little People".
Okay, it's not really.
On thought though, I think he could have been a kickass Gandalf, but seeing that he wasn't, and Mr. McKellan did a kickass job himself, I'm not complainin'.

Right on!
He's been rubbish for years.
I agree with Wyndham - read the comic, it's great (come on Wyndham, no one says graphic novel anymore, we've got over it now).
For every Blade and Ghost World there is a Fantastic Four, Hellboy (brillaint brilliant comic mind) Batman, Spiderman (me no fan) Judge Dredd (right on Joanna) Constantine (get Hellblazer comics) From Hell (get comic, get comic) V for Vendetta (I predict a shite movie - but a masterful comic) and and and....
Oh dear, angry geek overload.
