Things to do: Follow up

From some of the responses to posting the 200 things to do post last week, I thought I'd explain some of them:

62. Sky diving

This was awesome. I did it back at Uni for charity. It was a 2000 feet static line jump. So there was not a great deal of freefall. But the thrill of throwing yourself out of the door of an aeroplane at 2000 feet was amazing. It was a gorgeous summer evening, very still air, and the descent was fantastic! The only worry is the bit at the start and the bit at the end. The middle bit was awesome. Would love to do another one sometime!

06. Held a tarantula. &
178. Petted a cockroach

One of the places I did work experience was in education centre of a zoo. So I used to handle all the snakes and cockroaches on the "meet the animal" talks. The one thing I didn't do was handle a tarantula as the one at the zoo had an attitude problem and nobody went near it. I had to wait a few more years to see a group who tour schools with different bugs, and I finally managed to let a tarantula walk over my hands and held him for a few minutes.

I also used to keep a tank of cockroaches in my classroom when I was a teacher. I had the Madagascan Hissing ones... very cool pets :-) Used to get them out in lessons and freak the kids out.

146. Helped an animal give birth

One of the other places I did work experience was at a local veterinary surgery. I used to help with all the operations. One of which was a ceasarian on a cat. I had to rub one of the newborn kittens for a while until its lungs began to functin on their own. Was an amazing experience.

89. Played D&D for more than 6 hours straight

OK, rather sad. But my mates and I did do a 24 hour sponsored roleplay for chariddy mate. Playing Call of Cthulhu at midnight by candlelight was kinda spooky ;-)

87. Taken a martial arts class

OK, I was 6 and I did a judo class. I guess I kinda fancied the outfit as it made me look like a short Luke Skywalker... I did it for a few months and got bored. Still wore the jacket as a dressing gown for a while after that though ;-)

A few other things on that list that I haven't done yet but would like to. Will have to do an update sometime!

I've had a tarantula on my arm but, alas, when he moved towards my hand he suddenly went airborne as I flinched rather heavily. He fell on his back and was probably seeing double - times eight - as a result. The owner was not best pleased.

And I thought I was the only one who played Call of Cthulhu by candlelight. Hey, maybe playing Call of Cthulhu makes you into a tranny?

No but it seems to affect your sanity.
