Jewish Penicillin
Big chunks of chicken and carrot, with leek. Best served with as much lokshen as you can fit in the bowl. Standard vermicelli will do the job nicely. My Mum, like every other jewish mother, swears by the stuff.
There has been some research into its curative powers, and it has been found to have some truth in it. According to some websites (here and here) I found today: "Dr. Stephen Rennard, a specialist in pulmonary medicine, put his wife's grandmother's chicken soup recipe to the test. He concluded that chicken soup actually has a mild medicinal effect, inhibiting inflammation of the cells in the nasal passage, reducing the symptoms of a cold".
They also helpfully point out "It should be added that to benefit from Jewish Penicillin, one need not be Jewish."
