Mind your cattle

So, if you shake your doormat after 8am, string your washing across the street and then ride off to Parliament in a full suit of armour while in a state of inebriation, then watch out; you could be in big trouble with the law.

These are just a few of the ancient laws of the land that have never been removed from the law books, reports the Times today.

Looking at these laws and rules from the point of view of a 21st Century citizen it is obvious that they are no longer relevant and the society that they were set up to protect has long gone.

All of which ties in nicely with the discussion taking place on Selina's blog. Interesting stuff. Oh and did anyone catch the Richard Dawkins programme about religion on Channel 4 last week? Second part is on tonight. Quite thought provoking, even though Dawkins is rather an arrogant bugger sometimes...

Oh and just in case you decided to take your cattle out for a midnight stroll: The Metropolitan Streets Act 1867 prohibits driving or conducting cattle through any street between the hours of 10am and 7pm. The maximum penalty is a £25 fine for each head of cattle.

So you have been warned
