The Problem with Transformation
While this has been bubbling for a while, things seem to be coming to a head. See the posts by Siobhan, then Becky.
Things got a little confusing when Siobhan entitled her post "In defence of Transformation" and then decided to have a go at them anyway. I think several bottles of wine may have joined in the discussion. In the end we all agreed we needed to do something. The question was "What?"
For some of you the question may well be "Why?" and "Who?"
A little history. Transfomation is a very large business who caters for transvestites. They advertise in the mainstream media in places such as the News of the World, Maxim and FHM. For many people who are beginning to identify themselves as Transgendered, they are the first place that they see and are aware of that may cater for them.
As a teenager I remember seeing the adverts for Changeaways. "From He to She" they would proclaim. With a half and half picture of a hairy bloke and and sexy girl.
I once finally plucked up the courage to come to London and investigate these Tranny Stores. I went inside the store and found it a real disappointment. I left without buying any of the overpriced merchandise. I then trecked up to Cover Girl Shoes and bought a very nice waist clincher and bum pads (I still wear the pads today occasionally) at a much more reasonable price.
And that's the point. They are not the only place out there. But for many people they think they are. Typing Transvestite into Google gives them #1 place. So people will think they represent the TG community.
Transformation have never been "part" of the scene. Places like the Boudoir and Translife, Doreens and the like have got themselves involved in the community. They have worked with other sites and events such as Transmission, Sparkle and Angelic. They promote other events and make it feel like a proper community. Transformation are something else. They make their money from the scene, but never seem to put anything back into it. They have a purely parasitic relationship from what I can see. They charge over the odds for shoddy items which they know the buyers will be too embarrased to return.
So anyway as a way of trying to show people just how terrible the marketing practices of sites such as Transformation are I set up a parody site called Tatt4Trannies. I wanted to make people aware of the tactics they use such as using real girls and pretending they are TS or fake boobs etc.
Now we have ranted about Transformation for a long time maybe the time is right to start taking some action against them. The google bomb idea may help to push them from the automatic #1 spot on Google for transvestite ... but we still need to really spread the word.
There are better places to buy wigs. There are better places to buy boobs. There are better places to get Hormones and there are far far better places to get clothes. The high street for starters!
So post something on your blogs about them. Let others know, and put a transvestite link somewhere on your site.

Yeah, sorry about that. For the record, it was two bottles.
This is all fab and groovy hon, but I think what's more important than the Google-bombing is the "part (b)" of my little plan - the bit about being more out and open.
It's a Catch 22 situation, obviously - "it's not safe to be Out until the world is a bit more understanding" vs "the world won't be more understanding until we're a bit more Out" - but small things lead to big things, and I figure I'm in a reasonably safe position to start being more open.
The problem I always had with the Transformation-bashing, was that it was all negative - there never seemed to be anything positive to fill the void.
Basically, we need to be vocal. Stupidly, loudly, vocal.
I'm off to buy a megaphone

I agree Siobhan. But what does "being positive" mean? if it means promoting alternatives to Transformation then The Angels already does that, and other sites too.
We can either
a) promote alternatives
b) attack transformation
there's no way we can take em on as a business.. unless you can lay your hands on several hundred boxes of false boobs to sell.

It means offering up alternatives - like the Angels - every time someone takes a sideswipe at an easy target.
It means ranting externally, and not just within a closed community.
It means a lot of things - but I promised myself I would blog whilst drunk, so I'll shut up ;-)

hmm.. so if you dont blog when drunk you're gonna have to get a lot written in that hour...
I agree with the external ranting, we need to push more alternatives out into the big wide world...
So really its nothing to do with Transformation, its about being better at promoting alternative "first port of calls" to wannabe trannies.
Hmm.. does anyone know any mainstream journalists?

Let's spread the word!

By now I'm sure some of you have gleaned that I'm at Uni in America. Another one of those American trannies clinging on if you will.
So this is my part. Despite the fact that it is at least vaguely dangerous, I am attempting to be as open as possible (within reason) on campus so that anyone who wants to know what trannies are really like can find out.
I'm avoiding being too out on my hall and try and stay away from the frat boys. All reasonable compromises, I'm sure you'll agree.
Essentially, I decided on my own when thinking things over exactly what Siobhan is saying now. We don't want to be out till it's safe, and it won't be safe till some of us come out. I just didn't blog about it....hmm. Congrats Siobhan!

(Pans back to look at the issue with the Trans-place) I think Siobhan's right, and wrong. The whole TG scene definitely needs good publicity - "Kinky Boots", Sparkle, even Perry Grayson. The Trans-place has no part in that.
Trans-place, I reckon, suceeds for a completely different reason, and I doubt it changing its Google ratings will make any difference. I've tried to put
some thoughts together, and more would be good (with or without wine!). But let's at least keep the two things seperate, and not tar the Trans-place with ANY attempt to put the TG scene in a positive light?

Perry Grayson?
What????
That guy is anti TS as far as I know. Don't really think much of him after he did that piece on genders...
