Very Cool... Maps for Mars
Google releases Google Mars
"Google has expanded its online mapping services, offering users the chance to explore the surface of an alien world for the very first time.
Google Mars allows users to view the surface of the Red Planet either by a colour-coded altitude map, black and white photographs, or an infra-red map. "
Very cool ;-)

Yes, and it goes a long way to disproving another long-held fallacy about Mars: that it's the "red planet". The maps clearly show it to be rainbow-coloured.
I blame right-wing anti-homosexual propaganda.

OMG Becky!
It's merely the filter. Google is trying hard to appease those of us on the left with all of our darn multiculturalism.
Wait. I think I just saw a headline saying Rupert Murdoch and Karl Rove are filing suit against Google for not using black and white images.
And they couldn't use 'red planet' anyway. No native indians live there. :)

Lizz: you can call us either indians or native americans. I don't mind being called an indian, but I'm pretty sure a native Indian lives in India. Either way, that made me laugh a little. =)
Gillian: if you find the face, let me know!

Nevermind Gillian. When you go to google mars, in the search area, simply type "face" and it zooms off and shows you where it is. Unfortunately you can't zoom in very far at all...

If you type "Cydonia" into the search box it shows the location of the "Face"

Emily, I hadn't thought of Indian, from India... Jeesh I can be such a ditz!
LOL Still, here in USA (brash arrogants that we are - well at least, most of us... The worst of us to be sure) native indians refer to the natives that were living here prior to Columbus (or Lief Erickson before him) 'discovering' the new world.
Hmm... Back to google for a moment. Bush and Co now want to e able to review every IP address that accessed googles search database for 'terrorism' activity. I think their definition of terrorism though merely refers to anyone who disagrees with BushCo. Not good. Is it any better elsewhere?

I find it annoying. I really think that they could use their time getting me higher res images of Earth. What do you think?

I think have already mapped the Earth in very high resolution Natalie...

I gotta ask... WHY?
Well, GoogleEarth's mapped all the bits I'm never gonna go to (like London and Paraguay), so why stop at this planet?

Did you happen to see that google has launched "google finance"? If they would add a portfolio tracker type function, this would easily supplant most other finance sites. As it is, I'll do all my research there.
And BTW, while it isn't a planet, Google did map the moon.
