Bored of Big Brother

By Wednesday I was bored of the Big Brother Race Row Furore, by Thursday I was very pissed off with it all and by this morning I was shouting at the radio every time it was discussed.

So I will not say a lot about it, but wanted to get a few things off my chest.

1. How the Fuck can Jade Goody be worth £8 million?? She's only a celebrity because she was thick and stupid on a reality TV show, and her all she has done outside the house has been several reality TV shows. Hopefully after this show she will vanish into obscurity again.

2. We have been asked, by several commentators, to remember that ''Jade is mixed race too''. Bollocks. If anything Jade is mixed species. An unfortunate union of Pikey and Pot Bellied Pig from the look of her.

3. The problem with the show is that they have populated the house with pig ignorant fuckwits. These people are too stupid to be really racist - they are just ignorant of other people and other cultures. Mind you any intelligent celebrities would give this show a wide berth and never go in, so you are self-selecting fuckwits every year.

4. Will there be the inevitable spin off when they send Jade Goody to the Indian Big Brother house? Could be entertaining. ''Day 37. Mohammed has issued a Fatwa against Jade''.

Actually joking aside, if her agent is savvy the way to salvage her career would be some kind of ''Jade Goes to India'' where she actually sees what the place is like... remind me not to tune in when that eventually gets shown.

(and according to the radio today Jade's agent also represents Davina, Dermott O'Leary and Russel Brand, so dont expect her to get much of a grilling from them in the post BB interviews, expect damage control)

5. By Midweek in India they were burning effigies of Channel 4 Producers in the streets. This seems to be a growth market. I am thinking of setting up an effigy store which stocks generic effigys and a range of flags (USA, GB, Denmark) for all your protesting needs. Kind of like a one-stop shop. Just add a mask of your chosen world leader.

I might need a few extra sized effigies for any Jade Goody protest.

"These people are too stupid to be really racist."

I disagee, they're just stupid enough to be really racist.

"the way to salvage her career would be some kind of ''Jade Goes to India'' where she actually sees what the place is like"

Have you seen the full-page ad in the Guardian (and probably other papers) today? The India Tourism Office have sent her a HUGE invitation. :-)

Their behavious is no less abhorrent, and I won't try and make any excuses for them. But I think sometimes there's a ignorance of other cultures and lifestyles and so falling back on tired old stereotypes and fear of the different.

Whereas there is a more insidious type of racism of people who know full well what they are saying and doing.

And yeah, I've just seen the India advert...

Bullying seems to be commonplace within the BB household. Racism is clearly unacceptable, yet replace that with good old fashioned 'abuse' as the ratings stack up. Go figure.

When I saw Dirk Benedict I thought I might watch this for once but as soon as the chavscum pig family went in I lost all interest.
Rumours are that BB has been telling the manky trio what the outside worlds reaction is which is just stupid.

dont usually comment on your blog - read it now and again (can usually be found on that Becky blog) but I have to say I'm in 100% agreement with you.
Have just seen the post-eviction show and Davina was the toughest Ive seen her.. hopefully we'll now see the back of Jade and the other non-celebrities :)

And what of the media's ability to make a mountain out of a molehill?

Seems they were, the papers anyway, out to get Channel 4 and Jade - it just seemed so over the top.

Of course, if the masses weren't into such purient subject matter as BB the newspapers wouldn't be reporting on it.

    We get what we deserve.

As for Jade's stupidity I agree with Jo, Jade had little or no idea of the racist connotations she was unwittingly a part of. Of course, I can only comment on what I've seen from the News broadcasts, and like Jo I'm already heartily sick of it.

But as I always say, "Reality is in the perception of the beholder."

    "Ten people

    One house

    No brains

    This is Big Bullshit"

I caught the back end of one of the programs where Jade got called into the diary room and was grilled by BB about her actions. I suspect that gave her a hint that she'd stirred up a hornets nest outside the house and may have later been nudged into her more recent racsism comments.

The ultra-cynical part of me says that C4 deliberately stirred things up for the attention and didn't count on causing an international incident.

And I've seen at least one BB fan claim that Shipa was acting "like a spoiled princess" and deserved everything she got*rollseyes*

Bottom line, celebrities do these things because they think they can benefit from the publicity. Shilpa probably thought this was the best way to make a name for herself in the UK!

We get the television we deserve, they say. Actually I'm not entirely sure we do...bread and circuses and all that. And we dumbly sit and watch (well I do anyhow)...anaethetised and unable to look away. Car crash tv.

Was she racist? Yes, I think so...as were the lucky-to-not-be-in the-spotlight Danielle and Jo O'Thingy. Racism is ignorance + bigotry with the vocabulary of skin colour. Whci is pretty much what she did.
