Crumbling cavern perils

Stumbled upon this site today. It's a Fundamentalist Christian movie review website. Now if you thought Mark Kermode was opinionated, these guys take the biscuit (or wafer).

They certainly take the Fun out of Fundamentalist (but leave the Mental)

Basically they judge movies against a set of criteria based on the Bible such as Wanton Violence, Drugs/Alcohol, Sex/Homosexuality etc etc. This is much more than the ''Contains mild fantasy peril'' that we seem to get warned about on regular movie posters.

Lord of the Rings got quite a pasting over its use of magic and witchcraft, on the side of Good. Amongst the perils of watching this movie are:

  • Unholy control of the elements to fight evil
  • crumbling cavern perils
  • Long sequence of dire urgency with explosive sound
  • Many threats by unholy things
  • Smoking, repeatedly
  • Drinking, repeatedly
Smoking and Drinking?? - those bastardly hobbits... Maybe Sauron should have smited the bastards.

But if you want a real laugh, see the review of South Park: The Movie. The poor chap nearly explodes with moral outrage....

And Life of Brian isn't even on the site. I don't think they could bring themselves to buy a ticket.

South Park: The Movie. I just *love* the rainbow hang-gliders during the Devil's song. Gay Disney. Walt must be turning in his grave (or his ice box even).

What amazes me is that they haven't separated sex from homosexuality. Fundamentalists seem to have a big problem with this (and there is plenty of begetting in the Bible - actually there's quite a lot of alcohol, murder, wanton violence and the rest of it in the Bible, so it's difficult to see what their thinking really is on this).

"Unholy control of the elements to fight evil"

I don't know why, but I love that phrase. Maybe I should use it next time someone asks what I do...

Personally I think South Park: The Movie is puerile. But those fundie sites are just daft as Selina says they have huge issues with sex and sexuality. But a good fundie shouldn't be even watching the movies as they are unbilical apparently.

What gets my goat though is the crap like this that they write about the origin of the species.

My grammar should be taken out and shot.

My excuse it's late. I do apologise.

Jane, don't worry about your grammar, just savour that of the reviewer "In the vernacular of the movie, I did suffer most heinously immoral atrocities and wounds afflicted in and by much personal armed and aggressive battle with the demon decision whether to spend precious slivers of my life to engineer the architecture of this report package of the cinematic abbreviation by and in which I was morally and ethically offended. [Review of Quills - and he/she [I wanted to assume he, why?] left 1/3rd of the way through...]. Well, I understand the words by themselves, but, sorry, there are just too many in that sentance to string together and comprehend.

Don't worry about your Grammar Jane, it's better than theirs.

And I'm planning a post about the Creationists/Intelligent designers soon - just as soon as I've finished reading The God Delusion by Dawkins....
