Am I Bovvered?

A few thoughts on that Tate woman have already been expressed across the tranniesphere here, here, here, here and here and on the forums on Digital spy you can hear the screams.

I can't let this news pass without a comment of my own; and in essence I'm not convinced it's a good idea.

As has been commented by Becky, nobody complained when she was in the Xmas special. I guess the reason was that it was a one-off. She was a guest star, we had an hour of her and we thought that was it. In the same way we just shrug off the succession of Childrens BBC presenters and wannabe/ex boybanders that appear as resistance fighters or whatnot. We can cope with them in small doses.

She wasn't terrible, but she was grating. So we endured her for a one off but just can't face the prospect of her being there for a whole 13 episodes. All she does is shout a lot.. and couple that with a rather manic Doctor - there's just too much to cope with. I love David Tennant, but if he's gurning away and she's shouting like a chav back at him I'll just be throwing things at the telly.

And there's the small matter of her family. Argh, they were rather annoying too. With Russel T Davies we don't only have the assistant, we have their entire family too. I really liked Martha, but I hated her family. And Donnas were worse.

RTD has been quoted as wanting the assistant to be us.. to be the normal person in extraordinary circumstances. Our eyes and ears etc etc. And thats laudible. But sometimes the assistant seems to be bigger than the Doctor - take the season finale which rendered Martha Jones as hero of the universe with The Doctor doing his Dobby impression in a cage. Or Rose sucking in the Heart of the Tardis in the Badwolf arc.

Likewise each assistant in the new reimaged Doctor Who is a 21st century girl (Jack excluded). We've had two of those now. Wouldn't it be nice to have an alien, or someone out of time - like some of the ones he's had in the past? And who don't have a family of misfits that cause all the stories to be set on Earth. Over and over again. or New Earth. Or Parallel Earth.....

Some alien landscapes would be nice. We know they've found a good quarry with the Utopia episode, and have finally worked their CGI skills out to rebuild Galifrey, so why are we always on bloody Earth?

If the rumours are true and RTD is making this his final season, is this part of his scorched earth exit strategy?

I am quite looking forward to Kylie though ;)

mmmm Kylie.

This seems to be a real Marmite/love or hate topic... And I for one, would rather have my toast without the foul black stuff thankyou very much ;-)

I keep being asked, "Why don't you watch Doctor Who"? And I keep having to say, "Go away postie, and leave me some proper letters this time..."

Actually, no. I saw the Christmas one and that was far too much for my tiny mind. Just thinking that Catherine Tate is in more episodes, puts my brain into spasm.

Have to admit my eyebrows hit the ceiling on this one.

Tolerated her in The Runaway Bride but only because I thought she was one of the elements getting played for laughs.

Will still watch it(the show's been too good so far to stop watching just because of a cast change)but right now I can't see why Martha got booted and replaced with Donna long term.
