English Sport
So the great few days of English sport has ended up in ashes as usual.
It wouldnt be an English sporting event without us losing with some kind of sense of injustice ;) So the disputed try in the rugby, the dodgy penalty Rooney gave away in the football and the illegal cars in the F1 are just part of the experience. Armchair pundits will have fun arguing about these for ages afterwards.
By getting so close, and then losing Lewis Hamilton has raised himself to English racing hero in the mould of Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill who both almost won it several times before finally getting there. Had Lewis won it in his first year I dont think we'd have known what to do! Sports Personality of the Year is almost assured for our latest in a long line of plucky losers who get near but yet so far.
There's always next year...

Lewis will get personality of the year anyway (incidentally, have you noticed how commentators call him "Lewis" but refer to his opponents by their surnames only?).
The English Rugby team will claim the honours as team of the year.
Do they do a lifetime achievement award? Not sure, but if the primary awards go to individuals/teams who haven't won anything, then it must be Tim Henman's year.

English sport can't be too bad; there's always your beloved Arsenal sitting on top of the league... Oh hang on, there's not an Englishman amongst them is there ;-)

I got up at ludicrous o'clock (AEST) this morning to watch the race, I couldn't believe Hamilton's start and then I remembered something Bill Bailey once said:
"I'm English, as such I crave disappointment. I actively seek it out."

England did well to only loose by a 9 point margin, and considering we gave them their first 6 points I think they did bloody brilliant!
Much more disappointed for LH - what a story to tell the grand children, World Champion in first season of F1.
But guess he's not thinking about grand sprogs just yet!

Come on, it's not the sole priviledge of Englismen..
Remember Kimi was the youngest, fastest, most talented driver ever and only technical problems have been preventing him from winning the title for two years. He earned that.
Thumbs up for Hamilton, he's been impressive.

Brilliant stuff from Lewis - Brazil '07 will probably be the only Grand Prix I'll ever watch in a pub but the occasion deserved it.
Caught everyone on the hop - he will be number 1 at some point, possibly '08!
