The chances of anything coming from Mars

Are a million to one, he said.... Spent last night at the O2 arena feeding my inner geek. I've always been a fan of the musical version of War of the Worlds since I was a little kid. I bet there is a whole generation of us who had to do some kind of "movement piece" in primary school to the tune of "Eve of the War". I can still remember weaving my way around the school hall vaguely in time to the music.

I've wanted to see the live version for ages, ever since I heard they were doing it as a tour. And last night we pootled off to that there London to see it.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, and Forever Autumn and Thunder Child still make me a little misty eyed. The 30 foot martian fighting machine they lower onto the stage was pretty cool, and they've even improved on the Richard Burton hologram from the version on the DVD.

Here's a snippet from the DVD for those who have yet to see it...

By "they've even improved on the Richard Burton hologram from the version on the DVD.", do you mean removed it altogether?

I, too, have been a huge fan of the musical since I was a kid and loved the stage production when I saw it in Melbourne back in October.

The disembodied head of a young Richard Burton with seemingly restless eyes really cheapend the whole production for me, I'm afraid even more so than the dodgy radio mics that cut out numerous times, notably during "Spirit of Man", which was was one of my favourite tracks from the LP.

I'd still go and see it again, though!

    "No-one would have believed ;-)"

I always thought a million to one weren't bad odds. Worth sticking a pound on it.

Of course, any Pratchett fan will tell you that "million-to-one chances happen nine times out of ten"!

improved in that they now use some kind of thin mesh/film to project onto so it doenst leave the blank pink faceless blob inbetween speeches.

its still not perfect.. and the expressions sometimes are weird... but its still the best way to do it, A disembodied voice doesnt work, you need a focus.

All the mikes worked well last night. Only problem was one dodgy back projector during the first half which kept going out, but it was on the far right, so many didnt notice.

"A disembodied voice doesnt work, you need a focus."

I thought the projected images on the backdrop were focus enough. Wouldn't the World be a boring place if we all thought the same, though?

It's disappointing, given the ticket prices, that they're still having such technical hitches. There again, that's the difference between a live show and a film, I suppose.

Sorry to beat you to the Pratchett quotation on your own blog. Very rude of me.
